The friendly town of Leatherhead is home to St John’s School, a beautiful and traditional British boarding school. Every year, international students aged 8-14 & 14-17 join us here for our popular residential summer school courses.

St. John’s Age Split

The recommended age range at St. John’s is 8-17 years old. Students are divided into Juniors (8-14) and Seniors (14-17).

Classes - Juniors and Seniors will be taught in separate classes with a dedicated Senior Teacher for each age group. Within these age ranges students will, of course, be allocated to classes based on the results of their initial placement test.

Recreation – Afternoon and evening activities will have separate Junior and Senior sessions where appropriate, for example, contact sports like soccer or basketball, quizzes, film nights.

Accommodation – All students sharing a room will usually do so with someone of no more than about 2 years’ age difference (unless specifically requested, e.g. siblings of the same gender).

Excursions and timetabled ‘Out In Town’ – As part of the programme or on excursions, students will have shopping time – this is timetabled and a member of staff will always be present. During this time Juniors must remain with the staff member at all times. Seniors will be allowed to go shopping in pairs or small groups for specified periods of time. A Senior student can join a Junior sibling in an accompanied group but a Junior student cannot join a Senior sibling in an unaccompanied group.

Students who are 14-years-old will be assumed to be Seniors unless language level (assessed during the placement test) or maturity indicate a Junior course would be more appropriate.
