St John's School, Leatherhead - English Summer School

The friendly town of Leatherhead is home to St John’s School, a beautiful and traditional British boarding school. International students aged 8-13 & 13-16 join us here for our popular residential summer school courses.

Inviting and friendly are the terms usually used to describe St John's. This makes it particularly appealing to the younger age group studying for the Trinity Exam.

Close to London
The town of Leatherhead is surrounded by the beautiful English countryside, as it sits in the heart of the Thames Valley. Based in the friendly, bustling town, St John’s School is handily placed for your weekly half-day excursions into London. A 5-minute walk takes you to the station and a 45-minute journey takes you to the heart of the capital. A trip to the coast is just as easy - no more than an hour by road. Heathrow and Gatwick airports are both less than 35 km away. Brighton and the south coast is less than an hour by road.

A cosy campus
All your needs are met at St John’s School. The whole school forms a quadrangle around beautifully manicured lawns - a feature that gives it the feel of a traditional Oxbridge college.

It has outdoor playing fields, a 25 metre indoor swimming pool and a sports hall for basketball, volleyball and five-a-side football. Our courses are held in the new, multi-million pound teaching complex. As advanced as any in the country, it has 19 classrooms, superbly equipped computer suites housing 68 workstations and purpose-designed art studios.

Age split
The recommended age range at St John's is 8 - 16 years old. Students are divided into Juniors (8-13) and Seniors (13-16).

Juniors and Seniors will be taught in separate classes with a dedicated Senior Teacher for each age group. Within these age ranges students will be allocated to classes based on the results of their initial placement test.

Afternoon and evening activities will have separate Junior and Senior sessions where appropriate, for example, contact sports like soccer or basketball, quizzes, film nights.

Students who are 13-years-old will be assumed to be Seniors unless language level (assessed during the placement test) or maturity indicate a Junior course would be more appropriate.

English School Friends
At all Thames Valley centres, you'll have the chance to make friends with English boys and girls of a similar age. They'll be with you throughout the day: working with you in lessons, joining you for lunch, taking part in your afternoon activities and encouraging you to speak as much English as possible.
